BSA policy states that all units are to maintain
proper medical records for all participating registered scouters. These records
tend to come in three flavors.
Class 1
Basic medical information and permission to
treat in a medical emergency. This must be updated every 12 months and is
to readily available at all activities.
Class 2
Includes a physical examination. The exam
must be no older than 36 months from the date of an activity. Many troop activities
are of sufficient duration or activity level to require a class 2 record o
participate. Summer camp requires a Class 2 record.
Class 3
This is used by adults over 40 years of age
as well as for those taking part on high adventure activities. A physical
examination no older than 12 months for the need is required.
